Kids loved Ace and Ace loved kids.
It was a natural.
Perhaps it was
because children have no pretense
and neither did Ace.

The work of the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation focuses on the well-being of hospitalized children through the building and renovation of hospital environments that improve the family-centered and softer side of hospital care. We strive to reduce the stress of pediatric hospitalization by creating environments that are less clinical in appearance and more comforting and soothing for children and their families. The Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in Boston is the recipient of our funding.
The Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation is a
501-C-3 non-profit charity.

We are currently decorating the main entrance and plaza level of the Floating Hospital for Children with the adventures of the Toughlings. The entrance and hallways of the Floating are pretty bland and, well, not particularly welcoming to kids. They’re mostly whitish walls with a few boats and fish floating around to go with the Floating motif. The hospital very much wants to fix that and that’s what this project is all about. It’s about welcoming kids into spaces that are designed just for them — to connect with them, to delight them and put them at ease. It reminds them that,
You don’t have to be big to be strong.

Mikey Flowers truly lives the sentiment of ‘Never Forget.’

We are deeply grateful to the approximately 40 individuals who have run the marathon on our team since 2002 to raise money for the foundation. Being a charity runner in the marathon is a huge undertaking. Not only do the runners have to train throughout the long cold and often dark New England winters but they also have to raise a significant amount of sponsorship donations and then finally run all 26.6 miles to the finish. Our runners give us an enormous gift of their time, effort and love. We are deeply grateful to them all.

Joe Bertagna
Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna is in his 34th year as a college hockey administrator. This season marks his 19th year with Hockey East, after serving in a similar capacity with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for 15 years. He is the longest serving commissioner in Hockey East history and is currently the longest serving hockey commissioner in the NCAA. In February of 2015, Hockey East directors extended Bertagna’s contract through the 2016-17 season as a direct response to a number of triumphs for the conference, including a successful hosting of the 2015 NCAA Frozen Four in Boston, a new television contract, multiple sold-out events at Fenway Park, and the addition of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Connecticut to the conference membership.

Chris Nikolis and Sean Smith at the finish of the 2015 Race for Ace
For many, many years Chris Nikolis and other members of the American Hockey League staff have run half-marathons for us over the Columbus Day weekend. They have named their event, “The Race for Ace.” In conjunction with this, Chris has headed up an American Hockey League online auction to raise money for the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation. We are very grateful to Chris and to all the staff of the AHL for their generosity and loyalty over so many years.
